-

Tap “Setting – General – Network – Cellular Data Network”. In the “APN, Username and Password” field, simply type in some words so iPhone will not pass the correct values to service providers. Restart your iPhone if necessary.
- Maximize battery life
The iPhone’s newfound e-mail synchronization abilities are useful, but they also drain the battery more quickly. If that’s a concern, under Fetch New Data, set e-mail fetch time to Hourly, and turn Push off. iPhone and iPhone 3G models have more sensors than just the accelerometer. They have a separate sensor, situated right above the earpiece, that detects ambient light. The iPhone uses this sensor only once per session, though, just as you unlock the handset. But if you cover the sensor as you unlock the phone, you will trick the handset into thinking it’s in a dark room, and it will power down the screen brightness as a result.

Great reading, thank you

Very useful advice about choosing a case for the iPhone 4 Danny. The GF and I got one each from Orange UK after both having BlackBerries for the last couple years. I do miss the leather slip case that came with my BB Curve. I prefer to have my phones without a permanently attached case or cover, but like the added protection of the slip case when it’s in my pocket. As you rightly point out leather cases are much easier to get in and out of your pocket compared to their lint-magnet rubber brethren. I haven’t seen a decent looking leather slip case specifically for the iPhone 4 yet but thanks to your advice I’ll take a look at 3GS cases and see if I can find a suitable one amongst the wider range of those that are still available. I couldn’t agree more with your point about screen protectors as well. Even if you choose to go caseless (and let’s face it the iPhone 4 is a thing of beauty so why would you want to cover it up with just any old rubbish?) putting a screen protector on it is an absolute necessity. I’d much rather scratch a couple of quids worth of plastic film than find myself stuck with a gouge in my phone’s screen.
